Settling in...

Inspired by the blogs of Nicholas (http://mdscaper.blogspot.com/) and Catherine Newman (http://www.benandbirdy.blogspot.com/), I've decided to blog so that all of our friends and family can keep up with what we are doing, now that we've moved UP the East Coast to the EAST SIDE of Providence....do you have the theme song of The Jeffersons running through your head now? Good, because I've had it since I came up with the name of the blog. Sorry about that.

So, despite the fact that there are still about 550 boxes in our basement, and about 20 scattered throughout the rest of the house, we are starting to feel more at home. We love the area. We live directly across the street from the Brown University practice fields, and we have been listening to the various teams practice as they return this week. We also live across the street from Moses Brown School, and they are very kind about sharing their grounds with the neighborhood so that we can walk the dog there.

We can also walk to the very cool Thayer Street, which has several stores and ice cream places including Coldstone, which could prove to be a very bad thing for us. We are sad to report that Coldstone really is better than Ben & Jerry's. Sorry. Last weekend, in an effort to take advantage of some of the things the city has to offer, we attended our very first Waterfire. What is this? It is sort of like a huge outdoor art installation with 100 bonfires lit all along the rivers in downtown Providence, with street performers and music and food, and of course crowds. Kind of like the fireworks in DC but on a smaller scale. (See photo above - I'll take more next time!)
