Fall in New England

It really feels like autumn in New England now - especially because rumor has it that it is headed for 84 degrees in Maryland today, and we will be lucky to hit 68! But, even though it is cool, it is sunny and beautiful out. Lewis had a soccer game on Friday, and I actually stopped on the way there to take a couple of photos of the James V. Turner Reservoir (yes, I had to look up the name on Google Maps!)

Jessica and Hilary (her roommate, but honestly they spend so much time together we decided that "hetero-life-partner" was a better term) came in for the weekend, and we had a really nice time with them. They went to Boston for a couple of days to look at grad schools and law schools, but we spent plenty of time with them after that. On Saturday, we went to the RISD Student/Alumni Art Show and Sale on Benefit Street. There were lots of beautiful things, art and glass and jewelry and clothing, although many of the prices were on the higher end. Saturday night was the last Waterfire of the season. It was combined with a celebration of breast cancer survivors, and it was called Flames of Hope - there were pink ribbons and things everywhere, and they even lit up the State House with pink lights.

Jess and Hil wanted to go shopping on Sunday, so I went with them to the Wrentham outlet center, which has lots of great stores, and I tried hard to restrain myself from buying anything. The girls, however, found some great jeans at the Off 5th Saks outlet, and a few other things. Lew had a big party to go to on Sunday evening (did I mention that Columbus Day is huge here? I don't know if it's because of the large Italian population, or the fact that the Pilgrims first arrived in this area, but EVERYONE is off for Columbus Day), so the rest of us went to the movies and dinner. We saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Some of us liked it better than others. It is sort of classic Woody Allen, very quirky and weird, and not really a happy ending. Here's a photo of Lewis and a couple of his friends from the soccer game, by the way.
Monday was our day trip day - we decided to drive down the Sakonnet peninsula (the southeastern part of RI), and we stopped at several sites in Tiverton and Little Compton. We had a great time, and you can see the photos from our adventure on my Facebook page: Sakonnet. Which reminds me....a few people had mentioned to me that I should check out Facebook. So I finally did, and wow! I thought the blog sucked up a lot of time! Facebook is great because you find all sorts of people you haven't seen or talked to in years, and you get to find out what's happening in their lives. Really fun, and somewhat addicting. You've been warned....!
